Fulton Avenue Homeownership Project Launches

“Health system debuts 20 restored homes in West Baltimore”

“Bon Secours Mercy Health unveiled 20 restored, formerly vacant West Baltimore homes last week as part of an effort to stabilize homeownership in the area. Bon Secours Community Works, an arm of the health system, debuted the homes along Fulton Avenue as part of a broader initiative to make homeownership more affordable in Union Square, Restivo Square and Carrollton Ridge. The project is supported and funded by programs via the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, the Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative, federal funds, local philanthropic foundations and a variety of other state and local incentives, according to the health system. In addition to the vacant home restorations the organization is working on, Bon Secours Community Works also owns 800 affordable rental units and has more than 100 more in development, according to its website.”

West North Avenue

“Net-zero, mixed-use apartment building planned in West Baltimore’s Penn North neighborhood”

“The 20-unit building would replace most of an existing row of century-old, three-story homes currently sitting vacant in the 1600 block of West North Avenue.

In retrofitting most of an existing row of century-old, three-story homes currently sitting vacant in the 1600 block of West North Avenue, Schreiber Brothers Development is spearheading the North Avenue Zero-Energy Workforce Housing project, a 16-to-20 unit mixed-use apartment building with sustainability at the heart of its design. The project at 1604-1610 and 1614-1618 W. North Ave, just across from the Penn-North Baltimore Metro Subway station, would add a mix of new affordable and market-rate rentals as well as ground-floor spaces geared toward nonprofits, startups and small businesses.”
